Fodele trails

As mentioned by Cretan Places, "#Fodele, a scenic village about 20 kilometers to the west of #Heraklion, is located in a picturesque small valley with lush vegetation, orange groves, olive trees, and water resources".

Across the small river in that valley there are walking routes, easy and suitable for all types of walkers.

Nopigia to Ravdoucha trail

An interesting, and relatively easy, trail along the east coast of the gulf of Kissamos, from the seaside settlement at #Nopigia to the village of #Ravdoucha, through the most significant mining site of Crete near Ravdoucha.

"Pites tis Grias - Charakas" trail

A trail located at the eastern slopes of Psiloritis.
The trail at a glance according to Psiloritis Natural Park:
"Length:  4,8 km (+4,4 km to Rizinia)
Starting point altitude:  520 meters
Finishing point altitude:  520 meters
Lowest altitude:  460 meters
Highest altitude:  560 meters (normal trail), 660 meters (trail to Rizinia)
Maximum altitudinal difference:  100 meters, (200 meters for the trial to Rizinia)
Needed time:   2,5 - 3  hours (+ 2 hours for Rizinia)
Level of difficulty :   Small (suitable for families and students), possibility to extend the track towards Rizinia (slightly higher)
Available water: None
Flora:   Partly shrublands, orchards, clusters of Quercus pubescens
Starting point
The starting point of the track is the parking space at the viewpoint that can be found fifty meters before the relative sign about “Pites” on the paved road towards Agia Varvara. With the expanding of the road there will be no problems once the space will be modified into a parking space.

Perivolakia / Kapsas gorge

A really impressive gorge at the south-east part of Crete, between a scenic village and a coastal monastery. That gorge was associated with the tragic loss of two climbers in 2015.

The 3 h. route is located to one of the best gorges in Crete. While the route is signed, when walking there you have to pay attention in certain spots of the trail in the gorge, being also assured that if you go downhill from Perivolakia to Kapsas Monastery you do choose the right trail (one trail is going through the gorge and the other on the slopes east of the gorge). Moreover take a lot of water with you, especially in summer.

A trail near Gonies, Psiloritis

A trail crossing interesting geological formations near the village Gonies, on the north-east slopes of Psiloritis mountain.

An interesting trail developed by the Greek Forest Service on the western slopes of Psiloritis mountain, in a NATURA 2000 designated area, near Platania, Amari, Rethymnon.

Vossakos trail

A trail of relatively low level of difficulty at the northern part of central Crete, between Doxaro village and Vossakos monastery.
