Fodele trails

As mentioned by Cretan Places, "#Fodele, a scenic village about 20 kilometers to the west of #Heraklion, is located in a picturesque small valley with lush vegetation, orange groves, olive trees, and water resources".

Across the small river in that valley there are walking routes, easy and suitable for all types of walkers.

A trail has been constructed across the small river "Pantomatris" beginning from the center of Fodele and leading after half a kilometer to the place at the south edge of the village where the past residents of Fodele used to wash their clothes.

As proposed by the local cultural society, visitors can either walk around 1 km to the NW in order to reach the prominent Byzantine church of Virgin Mary, and the nearby Museum dedicated to the famous painter El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos, 16th - 17th c.), or walk to the old washing place mentioned above.
From that spot walkers can continue exploring uphill the valley to the SE, for a mile until the Monastery of St Panteleimon, dated to the Venetian period.

🔃 Feel free to ask for more information, or leave a comment with your review of the trail!
